Shaped by Hand, Inspired by Nature
Handmade ceramics that celebrate nature and character - joyful, authentic, and unapologetically unique.
Mud & Me
My name is Clara Fonte Boa. I am a Brazilian ceramic artist based in Austin, TX. I enjoy making unique sculptural pieces that spark joy and playfulness with a touch of irreverence. Nature is my inspiration: wild animals, pet animals, human animals. My work celebrates nature and character, playfully challenges expectations, embraces authenticity, and defies conventions.
I have had the itch to make ceramics since I was a kid. I made my first figurine when I was about 10 or 11. I sat down on the ground in the yard with a lump of wild clay fresh from the creek, and after rolling, pinching, and assembling little pieces, I made a few sculptures of Juca, the dog we had at the time. There were no kilns or glazes available to me, so I let them dry by the fire. Then, with the help of my artist aunt, Tia Marilia, I decorated them with acrylic paint.
Funny enough, my process hasn’t changed that much since. Just a few technical adjustments, a dab of experience, and a bit more patience petting the clay and waiting for time and heat to do its work.
Fun fact: my current dog’s name is Boo.
